Steve Newbery. (Bass Guitar)
Musical History Steve turned to music and his life evolved around it - at first listening to anything and everything, from Mantronix to Sig Sig Sputnik, David Bowie to Run DMC before fine tuning his ear to match his heart and his angst. He found rock and loved it! He left school with nothing but an affinity with computers, this lead him to work in the IT world for many years. Starting work at Vogue and GQ magazines opened his world to performing live in Salems Lot - a band formed with work members where he performed at many high profile clubs and bars in and around London. One of the most well-known being the Hippodrome in Leicester Square. After a few years of playing the 'London Scene' the band decided to quit as many were moving away from the capital. At this point steve was without musical direction and decided to join a four piece rock band called ' Riot'. After a couple of years of gigging in the South-East of England Steve decided that the type of music they were playing was not fulfilling his musical needs. He quit. Not so far away, State Of Grace had been formed by Andy Parker, Phil Newbery (Steve's older brother), Johnny Tempest and Mark Lawson. As soon as Steve heard the band's first EP he was on board. He listened to, and loved, the bands EPs, and other tracks that had never been released. Following State of Grace's regrouping and well aware they were looking for a new bass player, Steve got a call from Andy asking him if he would like to learn the songs from The Beautiful EP and have a rehearsal with the band. They all got together at Johnnys new studio facility and after running through the songs, the "new" State Of Grace line-up was complete. Personal History
Steve Newbery was born in a minute village to the North of Africa on a cold winters day.He was a lonely child with only a few transitory friends. Physically he was small and his peers towered above him. Although his size was often a reason for schoolboy taunting, it was by no means the bitter seed planted at an early age. From birth he had suffered from an extreme case of eczema, asthma and every allergy going. His contemporaries would tease him viciously probably not knowing that this would scar him forever.
